The best part of cooperation is when it becomes a tangible, unique and lasting experience. The booklet SUSTAINABILITY OF DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE: Problems, Prospects and Perspectives is such an endeavour, conceived at the international workshop of the same name held at the University of Fribourg in September 2023.
The booklet represents a unique blend of essays by development scholars and practitioners who have worked over the years and decades on three continents (Africa, Asia and Europe), in numerous countries (Kosovo, DRC, Kenya, India, Afghanistan, Les Philippines) and among diverse populations.
The booklet has been written in the belief that it will reach the institutions we are addressing here, and that it will influence their reflection and responsiveness to the proposals we are making – a genuine engagement with unsustainable aid practices that fail to achieve their stated objectives. Sustainability of development assistance is a quest, and we all have an important role to play in making it better, more effective and durable.
CCRS congratulates all those who contributed to and supported the booklet production. By reading, sharing, and reflecting on the issues discussed in this booklet, we are taking small steps towards spreading important messages that are essential for the sustainability of development assistance in the future.
