How Do Our Daily Purchasing Decisions Affect Food Production and Pricing? The FiBL Focus podcast series organized the Foodtalk which explored these questions in its episode on November 19, 2024—a must-listen for anyone wanting to consume fair and sustainably produced food.
Foodtalk hosted the discussion evening at Unternehmen Mitte in Basel titled "The Power of the Shopping Basket". The event shed light on the often opaque processes of food pricing and addressed key questions: Who benefits along the value chain, who bears the greatest burden, and what costs are often hidden from consumers?
Guests included Prof. Philipp Aerni from the Center for Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CCRS), Tex Tschurtschenthaler from Solidarische Landwirtschaft, and Benjamin Krähenmann from Crowd Container. Together with moderator Dubravka Vrdoljak from the Ernährungsforum Basel and Foodsave-Bankett Basel, they explained which actors have the most influence on prices and how consumers can actively engage with the system through their purchasing decisions.
